RM of Newcombe’s story
The Rural Municipality of Newcombe No. 260 was incorporated on December 11, 1911. It takes its name from Allan Simpson Newcombe, who played a leadership role in establishing the Boston Colony, a settlement of immigrants from Massachusetts.
Over the years, a number of small communities took shape within the municipality, among them Dankin, Inglenook and Sandgren. Glidden and Madison were both once villages; Madison dissolved as a village in 1998 and Glidden in 2000. Today the RM's office is in Glidden.
One of the area's landmarks is the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of St. John the Baptist, built in 1944 about 20 km southwest of Kindersley and now a designated heritage property. A one-room school that was moved to the site in 1961 served as the church hall. Religious services were last held in the church in 1986.
